How to pair an LG subwoofer to a soundbar
LG subwoofers pair automatically with their soundbar out of the box — plug the sub in first, then the bar, and the LED goes green. When the link drops, the manual method uses the PAIRING button on the sub's rear panel (recessed on a few models).
Manual pairing
Check the sub's LED first
Subwoofer plugged in. Solid green means it's already paired — your problem is level or content, not the link. Red means standby or a lost link: continue.
Turn the soundbar off
LG's official procedure starts with the bar powered off — the sub can't enter pairing mode cleanly while the bar holds the old link. Use the power button on the bar or its remote.
Press the PAIRING button on the back of the sub
A single press should set the LED blinking green — that's pairing mode. If the LED stays red, press and hold the button for about 5 seconds and it will switch over.
Turn the soundbar on and wait for solid green
Power the bar back on while the sub's LED is blinking. Blinking → solid green means paired. If it gives up and returns to solid red, move the sub within a metre of the bar and repeat — pair close, then relocate.
LG subwoofer LED states
| LED state | What it means |
|---|---|
| Solid green | Paired and working. |
| Blinking green | Connecting — searching for the soundbar. |
| Yellow-green (some models) | Same meanings, different colour: blinking = connecting, solid = paired. |
| Alternating red / green | Pairing-reset mode (after holding PAIRING for 5+ seconds on older models) — power the bar on to complete the link. |
| Red | Standby or link lost — run the pairing steps. |
| No light | No power: different outlet, reseat cable, then service. |
Frequently asked questions
Where is the pairing button on an LG subwoofer?
On the rear panel, labelled PAIRING — a small button, recessed on a few models. There's no pairing button on the soundbar itself: on current models the bar's side of the procedure is simply turning it off and back on (a few older LAS-era bars instead used holding Mute on the remote until 'WL RESET' appeared).
Why does my LG subwoofer keep disconnecting?
Distance and 5 GHz-band interference are the usual culprits — keep the sub within line of sight of the bar and move Wi-Fi routers off the direct path. Firmware updates (via the LG Soundbar app on supported models) have fixed persistent dropout bugs on several models.
Can I use an LG subwoofer with a non-LG soundbar?
No. Like every soundbar ecosystem, LG's wireless link is proprietary — the sub only pairs with compatible LG bars. For any other setup you'd need that brand's matching module or a conventional subwoofer with a receiver.
